Bad Neighbor
A Mahopac woman who allegedly entered her neighbor’s apartment without permission to seek solace from having a fight with her daughters is facing a charge of burglary.
Carmel Police arrested Patricia Ball, 48, last week, after cops responded to the apartment complex at 25 Miller Road for a report of a burglary.
Chief Michael Johnson said the son of the apartment’s owner visited the unit at 8pm to check on his mother’s possessions: “The woman was on vacation and the son found a window air conditioning unit pushed in. The woman’s apartment had been entered in the same fashion back in June, but since nothing had been taken, the woman requested that a report be made as a matter of record.”
Johnson said after the son and his friend checked the interior of the apartment and found nothing they called police. Officer Kevin Murphy responded and noticed a pair of sandals outside the window: “Inside the apartment the officer found Ms. Ball sitting on a couch. The upstairs neighbor told the officer about the family dispute but police nevertheless contacted the apartment’s owner, who requested that her neighbor be charged.”
Ball was brought to police headquarters, where she was arrested for not only burglary but also criminal trespass and larceny for reportedly taking some of her neighbor’s prescription medications.
Mach Speed Cyclist
A 17-year-old Mahopac youth is facing a variety of charges for allegedly operating a motorcycle at speeds in excess of 90 mph on Route 6 in Mahopac.
Carmel Police announced the arrest Monday of the unidentified youth. Chief Michael Johnson said the incident unfolded at 11:15 pm when Officer Frank Chibbaro observed the cycle’s operator “popping wheelies” on Cherry Lane in the downtown business district.
Johnson said the officer activated the emergency lights and siren on his SUV police car but the “cycle failed to pull over and instead sped southbound along Route 6.”
The police department’s Special Conditions Unit Patrol was in the area and after observing the speeding two-wheeler Officers Brian Shay and James Terrazas were also unsuccessful in stopping the speeding cycle, which the chief said “sped through the traffic signal on Route 6 at Baldwin Place Road at mach speed.”
Carmel Police notified Somers State Police and Yorktown Police as they pursued the motorcycle into Yorktown managing to observe a license plate number before the bike sped off on the Taconic State Parkway when the pursuit was terminated.
Johnson said the owner of the cycle was contacted who advised that he lent his cycle to a friend. The driver, a 17-year-old high school student who had only a junior operator’s license, was contacted and responded to police headquarters where he was arrested.
The youth was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer and reckless driving, as well as 12 additional vehicle and traffic law infractions that included speeding, failing to keep right, passing through a red traffic signal and others.
