Carmel Eagle Scout Assists the Hoving Home

Eric Gross

Jonathan French of Carmel hopes to construct a gazebo at the Hoving Home in Garrison as his Eagle Scout project. John French Carmel Eagle Scout candidate Jonathan French is a young man with a mission.

French kicked off his fundraising this week that will result in the purchase and construction of a gazebo at the Walter Hoving Home in Garrison.

The facility serves as a Christianbased drug and alcohol rehabilitation center that assists women in recovering from addictions.

French’s plan is to build the gazebo on the grounds of the facility to “serve as a place of reflection for the ladies undergoing treatments.”

French has begun organizing a 10-mile-hike on March 18 that will take place at the 1,400 acre Durland Scout Reservation in Putnam Valley: “I am seeking as many sponsors as possible in advance to support the project who can donate per mile or by contributing a flat rate,” he told the Courier and PCN&R.

Donations can be forwarded to Carmel Troop One and in the memo section write “Jon French Eagle Project.” Checks should be forwarded to Jon French at 67 Woodland Trail, Carmel, NY 10512.
