Mahopac on Addressing Needs of Special Education Children
“IEP” is an acronym for an Individualized Education Program mandated for students who qualify for special education.
“Understanding the IEP” will be the topic of discussion Thursday when the Mahopac School District hosts a presentation relating to the needs, goals and objectives of special education youngsters.
Chrisanne Petrone, Outreach Coordinator of the Hudson Valley Special Education Parent Center, will lead the information session for parents of children enrolled in special education classes. Topics to be discussed include: What parents should know about their child’s IEP? How is an IEP compiled? What is the parents’ role in the IEP process?
Superintendent Thomas Manko said the presentation that will take place at the district’s Parent Information Night at the Lakeview Elementary School would offer those in attendance “details about new IEP forms used since last September by state and local agencies.”
Thursday’s session gets underway at 7 p.m.
