Woman Jailed for Identity Theft
A Mahopac woman with a long criminal history has been arrested for allegedly stealing the identity of an 86-year-old Somers woman.
State Police charged Nancy Edwards, 48, last week with using the victim’s credit card and making $23,000 in unauthorized purchases. Edwards was arraigned in Somers Town Court on felony charges of identity theft and sent to the Westchester County Jail without bail. State Police Investigator Cornelius Merritt said this was not the first time that Edwards ran afoul of the law, and that she has used several aliases in recent years, including Nancy Gilligan, Alice Edwards and Nancy Mulligan
Area Woman in Hot Water over Debit Card
A 19-year-old Southeast woman is facing charges of grand larceny for allegedly stealing money from a neighbor’s bank account.
The Putnam Sheriff’s Department reported the arrest last week of Kimberly Gallo-Kappus in connection with the incident. Capt. William McNamara said that late last month, the victim called authorities to report the detection of unauthorized withdrawals from an account using a debit card. She was arrested, charged with two counts, and released until further court action.
Burglary Suspect Nabbed at Mahopac Motel
Carmel Police along with State Police from Somers swooped down on a Mahopac motel and apprehended a man wanted for burglarizing a home in Somers.
Troop K Major Michael Kopy identified the suspect as Christopher Finney, 20, of Baldwin Place. Kopy said Investigator Thomas Roidl, who was assisted by officers from the Carmel PD, took Finney into custody at the Budget Motel on Route 6 in Mahopac at 2 p.m. last Wednesday in connection with the residential burglary 48 hours earlier.
Finney was charged with burglary, criminal possession of controlled substances, and unlawful possession of marijuana, arraigned and sent to the Putnam Correctional Facility without bail.
Local Man Jailed for Home Burglary
A 27-year-old Patterson man is facing up to 25 years in state prison for allegedly breaking into a Patterson residence last Thanksgiving and stealing $15,000 in cash and jewelry as well as a loaded handgun.
The Sheriff’s Department reported the arrest last week of Timothy Baker in connection with the case. Captain William McNamara said Baker was taken into custody last Tuesday on charges of 1st degree burglary and criminal possession of a firearm after police found the stolen loaded handgun in his residence along Morningside Drive. Baker was arraigned and jailed on $500,000 bond pending future court action March 16 in Patterson.
Weird Shift at Rite-Aid
A female employee at the Rite-Aid Pharmacy in Carmel did a double-take last Thursday evening when she saw a male customer standing in an aisle spraying his body with a can of aerosol perfume spray.
Carmel Police Chief Michael Johnson said the clerk told the patron to stop. The chief said the man left the store but prior to departing he allegedly touched the woman on the back of her body. Officer Stephen McCabe responded to the 8:30 p.m. complaint at the Shop-Rite Plaza Shopping Center off Route 52 and discovered that the suspect, Joseph Ettere, 25, of Mt. Vernon, was an employee of Shop-Rite. He was arrested for forcible touching and following arraignment was released without bail.
