Carmel Girls Close Regular Season with Loss to Tuskers
CARMEL—The Carmel High girls basketball team closed out the regular season with a 43-39 loss to Somers in a League 1B game played last Tuesday at Carmel.
Alyssa D’Apice had nine points, five assists and four steals for the Rams (13- 5, 9-1), Nikki Oliver had nine points and 10 rebounds, and Sabrina Diaz and Taylor Bunkley each added eight points.
Marisa Gardineer gave Carmel fits all game, and finished with a gamehigh 16 points. Jamie Sisca added 13 for the Tuskers (14-4).
“We had a tough time with their zone,” Rams coach Dan O’Hare said. “They spread us out and forced us into jump shots…. we’re better at going to the rim. We didn’t attack, and that’s something we need to do. They also limited our transition game.”
Carmel, which clinched the league title last week, drew the No. 10 seed in Class AA, and was set to travel to face No. 7 Clarkstown South Friday at 4:30 p.m.
“They are a solid team,” O’Hare said of South. “We’ve got to do our thing… I think the draw is good. We have experience – four seniors have been in the sectionals before – so I feel confident that we can do well.”
